Both the federal Liberals and the opposition Canadian Alliance stand behind the legislation defining a legal marriage as a union between a man and a woman. They have everything - except registered marriage licences making their gay unions legal. This was the result of the clash of fundamentally different worldviews and value systems. Behind the particular issue lay the question of the moral and social status of homosexuals and homosexual acts. They are concerned that their double wedding may become a circus complete with media and protesters.
